In the summer of 2008, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) invited Moriyama & Teshima to present ideas and a proposed approach for the re-development and renewal of blighted lands and pathways along the Bow and Elbow Rivers known as the East Village Riverwalk.

CMLC was so impressed with our vision and approach that M&T was invited to join and lead the Riverwalk Master Planning and design process. After years of delays and false starts, Phase 1 of Riverwalk was unveiled in November of 2008, largely due to the vision, approach and passion M&T brought to the project.

Phase 1 of Riverwalk, valued at $10 million, comprises a four kilometer pathway that will link Eau Claire to Lindsay Park through eastern Chinatown, the East Village, Fort Calgary, the Beltline/MacDonald Bridge area, Stampede Park and Macleod Trail/Lindsay Park, all key areas around Calgary's rivers.

The Riverwalk Master Plan embraces a safe, modern and green path design that allows Calgarians to stroll right down to the Bow River, and includes: improved river access for rafters, children's playground, new community garden for residents, new pedestrian plazas, landscaped 'gathering pads' for staging year-round special events, historical site interpretations and a pedestrian bridge linking the banks of the Bow River through St. Patrick's Island.
